As I have been writing this blog for the past four years, I have been watching the ebb and flow of the climate of justice. Well, lately it’s been more ebb than flow. The arc that bends toward justice seems to have gone haywire.
If you had some doubt whether we live in a climate of injustice, the next year should dispel them. If you wondered if people needed your help, your uncertainty will be washed away. If you thought you could wait out the bad times, you have another thought coming. If you sleep, you might wake up to a nightmare. We need to take some steps toward a climate of justice.
Where do we go from here? Let’s look at where we have been going. Winning doesn’t always mean that we are going in the right direction. If you think that not paying attention to climate change is a winning solution, just look at the LA fires. Where we need to go might just be in the direction the blog has been signaling.
As a writer of this blog, I have been thinking about what I have been doing. I recently started sorting out the over 120 posts into different categories such as protection of civilians or respect for human dignity. I came up with 20 such themes that I named “steps” to emphasize that they were about purposeful actions: things we could do.
I am now publishing a book about these steps and 116 posts that exemplify them. It’s called Twenty Steps Toward a Climate of Justice. It should be available before long. In the meantime, I thought you might like to see the twenty steps. Maybe they will offer some clues as to where we can go from here. Remember, the power for change is not with the rulers and oligarchs, but with the civilians who call for protection and the citizens who respond to them. Here are the steps:
Looking forward to the book!
